Frequently Asked Questions

Cosmetic Tattooing

How long will the tattoo last?

Depending on the style of tattoo you decided on, your skin type, lifestyle and environmental factors will all play a part in how long you can expect a treatment to last. Shea will give you an indication once she meets you in person and assess your skin type and lifestyle. To keep your brows looking fresh we find on average most of our clients require a colour enhancement at around 6 – 12 months for Microblading and 12 – 18 months for the machine methods.

What if I want a certain type of brow shape?

We advise professionally, but the shape and style is to be approved by you before the process begins. We don’t do anything without your consent and approval first. Shea will always design the brows specifically for you based on your facial features, what your brows are currently lacking, what subtle enhancements your eye area could benefit from and get them looking as symmetrical as possible.

How many treatments are needed?

All cosmetic tattooing treatments require two sessions that are spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart, giving the skin ample time to heal. These sessions are approximately 1 hr 45mins each. The two appointments ensure your cosmetic tattoo is of the highest standard.

What is the aftercare and maintenance?

We provide you with detailed after care information and home care instructions on what to expect during the week after your treatment and we provide you with the cream we recommend you use on your new tattoo.

What type of products and pigments are used?

The pigments and products that we use are of the highest quality and standard. All consumables are one time use, disposable items. Exceptional hygiene standards are met at all times.

Ongoing maintenance

If any brow hair has been waxed into a new modernised shape to enhance and compliment the tattoo, those hairs will always continue to grow back and when they do we recommend clients have a brow sculpt appointment every 4 – 8 weeks. This will keep your brows and eye area looking polished and perfected.

Is there a down time after the treatment?

The BROWS will appear up to 30%- 40% darker in colour and up to 15% larger immediately after the treatment. This will settle down as soon as the brows begin to heal within the first 7 days. People can resume work immediately after treatment. Make up can still be work as normal around the tattoo. Nothing will go directly over the tattoo except for your aftercare cream for the first 7 days. Your brows will NOT look messy, bleeding or like a wound that needs to be covered up at all! Depending on the look and outcome you are wanting to achieve generally they will just be a subtle enhancement and more perfected version of what you came in with.

The EYES can and usually do feel a little heavy and look slightly swollen along the lash line for up to 24 – 48hrs. I always liken it to when you have had a cry just before bed and woken up the next morning with puffy eyes! You will feel exactly like that the next morning. Never enough to take the day off work or hide indoors but you will just feel like your eyelids are a little heavy.

The LIPS usually swell and will immediately appear very vibrant in colour. You will not see a true indication of your healed colour in that first week. No matter how soft and natural the colour is we use they will always appear VERY intense in colour. I will show you photos of this in your consultation. The lips will feel very dry and tight for 5-7 days. If you have EVER had a cold sore before you will need to take 2 x doses of preventative oral medication Before and After your lip tattoo has been done. The lips will peel a lot and during the course of the 5-7 days of healing you will loose at least 50% of the colour and it will continue to develop over the 6 week healing process.

Non Laser Tattoo Removal

How does this process work?

It works through the process of Osmosis : By introducing a high concentration of saline into the dermis of the skin where unwanted pigment resides, water in the cells beneath and surrounding the pigment (which contain lower concentrations of sea salt) will create osmotic pressure and will rise to the areas containing the higher concentrations of sea salt. With this process of equalisation, pigment is forced from the dermal layer upward to the epidermal layer by osmotic pressure.

What can I expect during and after each treatment?

During the treatment you should expect bleeding and some mild swelling. There will be slight tenderness of the area for a day or so. Scabs should begin to form after 24 – 48hrs. Pigment may be visible in the scab, the scab is critical and exactly what we want to achieve! It cannot be touched, picked or wet in the shower. The results will not be known for at least thirty days after your removal session.

What are the benefits of this procedure?

The tattoo is lighter and could possibly fade completely over time. This
removal technique is safe for most skin types. The saline removal method is
safer and has less risks of hyper/hypo pigmentation, blistering, and scarring
than laser removal treatments. The skin may be tattooed over once the area
has sufficiently healed. Most clients find once having laser tattoo removal on
their brows they will not be able to get any success in retention of colour due
to the scar tissue caused by the laser. This is NOT the case with saline
removal. The area can definitely be tattooed again with great success in
retention.

Who are the best candidates?

Clients who are patient and willing to follow the strict aftercare instructions are good candidates. Clients on blood thinning medications who have obtained a Doctors note and have no healing issues may be good candidates as blood flow during the procedure is both beneficial and desired for a good outcome.

How many treatments will I need?

This all varies on the type of tattoo we are trying to remove, how deep the pigment was placed and how well you heal. For correction work the tattoo doesn’t need to be removed entirely. As long as we can lighten it enough to go over it again that may only require 1 – 2 sessions, in some cases clients have needed 4 – 5 sessions. This will be further determined at your consultation and after we have seen the healed results of your first treatment.

Does it hurt?

A topical anaesthetic is applied prior to the treatment and can be re applied if any discomfort is felt. Clients may experience a stinging sensation once or twice when the product is wiped over the treated area. The are can feel a little “worked over’ and bruised at times.
